My first time meeting Damilola Fowosire was with me practicing my negotiation skills. It felt like I was talking to a friend I had known for ages. We agreed on some terms and he showed up for the outreach we were having.
Afterwards, I booked him for a family photo shoot and the pictures received are one of the best pictures of me yet. The shoot was so much fun and the quality topnotch. He gets my #ShugaryMention for today.
Please introduce yourself and/or your business
My name is FOWOSIRE, Oluwadamilola Olayinka Olamilekan Babajide Abdul Qudus Alexander aka Fowo. I am a photographer who loves to make magic with anything that is placed in front of my lens whether it’s an object or a subject.
I am also known as “THE JOVIAL PHOTOGRAPHER” because of how hard it is to not smile when you have a photoshoot with me.
I mean, I go HYPE you pass HYPOπππ. (ππΎββοΈππΎββοΈππΎββοΈππΎββοΈ)
How long have you been in business?
Professionally, I would say 3 years now. As a hobby, I have been an artist all my life. It all started from painting as a lil child. As I grew older, I started seeing things differently; I mean how beautiful is it to just press a button and picture is made, it’s fascinating right?
What are the best moments so far?
My best moment so far was when a 90 year old woman who I made a timeless portrait for, wanted to fly me to London to document her birthday. Sadly, her children already booked a photographer in London for her. This experience made me really appreciate what I do as an artist. It made me promise myself to always deliver timeless photographs.
What are the worst moments so far?
Omo x 100!!!
Firstly, the rate at which the Naira devalues every day is so annoying and the fact that you can’t increase your rate the moment the Naira devalues is annoying.
Then, there’s the part where clients belittle the amount of work you put in as a photographer. “Ehn, isn’t it just to snap pa pa (imitating shutter sounds) and it’s done?” . No sir/ madam, there’s a whole long process that goes in after the photograph has been taken. There’s adjusting the skin tone, color correction, blemish removal, retouching, color grading, and the list goes on.
So, in the end, we don’t get much for the amount of work we do as photographers here in Nigeria, because we are the jack of all trades. As Photographers, we are also makeup artists, hairstylists, doctors, dermatologists, plastic surgeons. But then, my job as a photographer is to bring out the best version of you and capture timeless images.
